In Foods 8, students cook simple healthy recipes and learn basic cooking techniques and nutrition principles. This is what you will learn:
Next year, you can take a full year of cooking- Foods 10 (it is for grade 9s as Foods 9 is not offered so you will get a grade 10 credit while in grade 9.)
- In a fun and cooperative setting, students cook and eat chocolate chip oatmeal cookies, coffee cake, chili lime fries, scrambled egg burritos, taco salad, pasta Primavera, quesadillas, apple cobbler, and curry lentil soup.
- Students gain confidence as they learn lifelong skills - baking, peeling, boiling, simmering, chopping, sautéing, frying, dicing, stirring, mixing, organization, and time management.
- Food cross-contamination, including prevention and management
- Food preparation practices, including elements of a recipe, techniques, and equipment
- Effects of removing or substituting ingredients, including nutritional profile, food quality, taste
- Social factors that affect food choices, including eating practices
- Local food systems
